LTO projects on Short-toed Eagle in SE Poland

Short-toed Eagle adult female, by Marcin LenartThe Lublin Ornithology Society started their projects on GPS-GSM telemetry of local adult Short-toed Eagles in 2012. Some results of them are available on sites of the society, as well as conservation programs. Just use the Polish name of the species «Gadożer» as a search word to find info regarding Short-toeds in the submitted files:

Short-toed Eagle in Poland erstwhile and now

August 3, 1935 : the snake is still alive and wrigglesThe articles about Short-toed Eagles in present southwestern /map/ and southeastern /map/ Poland are divided by about 80 years. Four of them, written by Viktor Zebe /map/ and published in the first half of the 20th century, have been placed on the Ptaki Śląska – Birds of Silesia website (De):

Returning of Short-toed Eagle to Poland

Migration birds of prey from Lublin region

After 153 days of silence GSM transmitter of the adult Short-toed Eagle female tagged in Poland in 2012 started working again in Africa on March 1st. So, Polish ornithologists could mark her spring migration route receiving coordinates of her location each hour. The route was different from the autumn one: the bird visited Greece and Ukraine where she was travelling during almost 3 weeks, maybe because of the bad weather conditions, but finally she achieved the old breeding territory in Poland /map/. Her partner was observed there on April 17th with caught snake in his beak. The female joined him 2 days later.

Migration birds of prey from Lublin region

Adult Short-toed Eagle female was equipped with a GPS-GSM logger in the southern part of Lublin Province /map/ (south-eastern Poland) this year. She started the autumn migration quite early.
