This is short, but fresh news from GREFA. Old pair of Short-toed Eagles continues to breed in captivity this year in the GREFA Wild Fauna Recovery Centre. They do it regularly during several years, but there is no much information available about each breeding attempt yet.

This work was dedicated to geographical variations of Short-toed Eagle. The Circaetus gallicus heptneri subspecies was described in the article. It is more often considered now as a clinal variation, but however the article is still of interest and therefore it has been translated to English and to Russian with help of our friends.

This is just a message of Vincenzo Rizzo Pinna from Maremma Regional Park /map/: the first Short-toed Eagle chick hatched in the Park on May 22^d in the observer’s estimation. In the video we can see the first moment when the chick was left alone in the nest for about 20 minutes. Thank you for the fresh news, Vincenzo!

A projected model of the plumage changing for Short-toed Eagle has been made by me for discussion and rectification by comments from the practising observers. This aims to make easier field recognizing of different ages of Short-toed Eagles for birdwatchers.
