Manifesto against plastic

Manifeste anti-plastique

This document describes the problem of relationships between man and bird regarding methods of the colour marking. The text is available in French and in English now. Also you can say your opinion on the subject making the comment on the Manifeste anti-plastique blog in French or right here in English. As Short-toed Eagle researchers use the colour ringing and the alar marking methods in their work the question must be topical for them.

Colour-ringed Short-toed Eagle

Saturday, July 5th, 2008 / 7 Comments
Colour ringed, left leg Green over Red

Date: 30th April 2008
Time: 18:50
Species: Short-toed Eagle
Location: Jews Gate Bird Observatory, Gibraltar
Rings: Two colour rings on left leg, Green over Red

Details: The bird was migrating north, seen arriving over the Straits of Gibraltar from Africa, then being mobbed by the resident pair of Ravens and many Yellow-legged Gulls. The bird passed low overhead before continuing northwards into Spain.

I’m interested to know when and where the bird was ringed and any further information you can supply.

Who also paints S.t.Eagles?

Monday, October 29th, 2007 / 2 Comments

A Short-toed Eagle painted on it’s underwing coverts with red, was seen in Jibraltar this Autumn. No one declared doing such thing and it could be someone not a researcher who has done this marking. At beginning we suspected it is one of mine, but later and after describing the marking seen, i understood it is not one of mine, and possibly not of a researcher because the mark was a huge mark with no coding method.

If anyone knows something about that please contact me at:

my previous mail (sameh@pob.huji.ac.il) is no longer active.
