Comparative studies of migration and distribution

Dec 8, 2018 / Comment

The authors of the following papers studied Short-toed Eagles among other Raptors. Here are the results of those comparative studies focused on monitoring of migrating birds and on distribution constraints:

M. PANUCCIO, M. GUSTIN, G. BOGLIANI, 2011 – A comparison of two methods for monitoring migrating broad-winged Raptors approaching a long water crossing // Avocetta, 35 (1-2): pp. 13-17. – Short-toed Eagle. file (En).

• J.L. TELLERÍA, G. FANDOS, E. TENA, R. CARBONELL, A. ONRUBIA, A. QNINBA, Á. RAMÍREZ, 2018 – Constraints on raptor distribution at the southwestern boundary of the Palaearctic: implications for conservation // Biodiversity and Conservation: pp. 1-17. (En).

Natural effects on Short-toed Eagle migration

Nov 28, 2016 / Comment

Two papers about effects of the wind and the large water surface on Short-toed Eagle migration have been prepared by Spanish and Italian researchers and released this year:

• Javier VIDAL-MATEO, Ugo MELLONE, Pascual LÓPEZ-LÓPEZ, Javier DE LA PUENTE, Clara GARCÍA-RIPOLLÉS, Ana BERMEJO, Vicente URIOS, 2016 – Wind effects on the migration routes of trans-Saharan soaring raptors: geographical, seasonal, and interspecific variation // Current Zoology, 62: pp. 89-97. – Short-toed Eagle. file (En). This thorough article can be found on the University of Valencia website.

Nicolantonio AGOSTINI, Marco GUSTIN & Michele PANUCCIO, 2016 – Short-toed snake eagles Circaetus gallicus (Gmelin, 1788) (Aves: Accipitridae) approaching a water barrier show reverse direction of migration // Italian Journal of Zoology, DOI: 10.1080 / 11250003.2016. 1240833. – Short-toed Eagle. file (En) /map/. The paper is available on a website of Mediterranean Raptor Migration Network.

Three texts dedicated to Short-toed Eagle are presented here. They all are in different formats and knit together by the authors (Guido Premuda, Luca Baghino & Marco Gustin), by a territory of the researches (Italy) /map/ and by year of issue (2006):

• Luciano RUGGIERI, Guido PREMUDA, Luca BAGHINO, Luca GIRAUDO, 2006 – Esperienza di monitoraggio su vasta scala della migrazione autunnale del Biancone Circaetus gallicus in Italia e nel Mediterraneo centrale [A large-scale survey of the autumn migration of Short-toed Eagles across Italy and the Central Mediterranean] // Avocetta, 30: 76-80. – Short-toed Eagle. file (It) (source – EBN Italia website).

• Luca BAGHINO, Guido PREMUDA, 2006 – Consistente migrazione pre-riproduttiva del Biancone Circaetus gallicus lungo il versante tirrenico ligure-toscano [Substantial pre-reproductive migration of the Short-toed Eagle along the Tyrrhenian coast of Liguria and Tuscany] // Rete Natura 2000 in Liguria: Pubblicazioni – Short-toed Eagle. file (It) (source – Parco del Beigua website).

The last work concerns Short-toed Eagle among other Raptors.
